Especially in the first weeks after giving birth your little one’s nappies need to be changed six to ten times a day. If your little sunshine is not supposed to grow up nappy free, the nappy is going to be an everyday companion for at least one year. That is why, it is particularly important to create a comfortable and safe spot for your little to be changed in and to make sure that both you and your child feel good with it. More information >
The classic changing dresser usually features a chest of drawers and the matching changing mat or pad which can be removed later on. This way, the changing dresser can be used for a long time even after your little one got dry, such as for storing clothes or toys. The lying surface of the changing dresser is usually padded by the changing mat which provides considerably more comfort and safety to your little one’s nappy changing routine.
The major benefit of a changing dresser is that it provides plenty of space for your child, accessories and care products. This way, extra clothes, nappies, nappy bucket and baby creams are easy and quick to reach and do not have to be collected from everywhere in the room before changing your baby. The major disadvantage however, is its size. The changing dresser requires quite a lot of space and thus, is not likely to be suitable for smaller rooms.
As practical as classic changing dressers may be, they are not really suitable for small rooms. This is when alternatives such as changing tables or a changing station that can be mounted on the wall come in super handy. These changing tables & furniture are much more compact, but fulfil the same purpose. While their sturdy base provides enough space for storing baby’s changing accessories and care products, the changing surface supplies your little one with a safe and comfy spot for kicking and being changed on. An additional changing mat or pad adds some safety and comfort for your child. Changing mats with padded and elevated side parts contribute to even more comfort and safety.
The major benefits of changing tables or wall-mounted changing units are their flexibility as well as the small space they require. If they are not used anymore, most of these types can be transformed into a shelf or kids’ table.
Still, sometimes even changing tables or wall-mounted changing units can be too big for small nurseries and flats – or else they don’t meet the aesthetic demands of new parents, who then opt for more compact alternatives which are introduced in the next section.
If their place lacks a spot that could fit a changing dresser or rather bulky changing furniture, most parents opt for smart and more compact solutions that can be set up and used flexibly. A wall mounted changing station, for instance, can be folded down and thus does not require that much space. These changing stations usually come with a built-in shelf which supplies enough space to store baby’s care products and the like. However, other useful accessories, such as a nappy bucket, cannot be stored there.
Padded changing units or a separate changing mats are also pretty popular with parents who own a smaller flat. A changing unit for the bathtub comes in super handy since it can be attached to the rim of the bathtub. The basic versions offer flexible changing mats or pads while others combine a changing unit with a built-in mounting for the bathtub.
A nappy changing board is usually used on top of the baby cot; less frequently on other pieces of furniture. Its sturdy board which is often made of wood features either notches for the sides of the cot or else retainers or brackets with screws. This way, the changing board is safely and rigidly supported and cannot slip out of place when your little one moves violently.
Suitable pieces of furniture for changing your little one’s nappies create the base for a proper changing station, where both baby and parents feel comfortable. But only the right accessories turn it into a cosy spot of well-being which is also suitable for giving your little one a relaxing massage and do some baby gymnastics. Thus, most of the changing table furniture is extended by ...
A mobile that is hung over the changing station will catch your little one’s attention and entertain him while being changed. An additional lamp that gives soft and gentle light without producing glare will add to an even cosier atmosphere.
