Why do babies need swim nappies?

Babies simply love splashing in warm water and complete their infant swimming lesson in your arms. Due to their composition, classic nappies are not suitable for being used in the water. They are likely to swell with water and thus tend to pull your child underwater. When you and your child stay in the swimming pool for a bit longer, classic nappies would dissolve and then clog the nozzles of the pool’s filtration system. A swim nappy neither swells with water nor dissolves in water. Swim nappies usually come with a core which absorbs water, but does not swell with water. Thus a swim nappy supplies your child with more freedom to move which is required for splashing and doing his first ever attempts at swimming.

Advantages of a swim nappy

  • Doesn’t swell with water
  • More freedom of movement for your child
  • Hygienic and secure
  • Doesn’t dissolve in water

Swim nappy: Reusable or disposable?

You can choose between disposable and reusable swim nappies. Which choice you finally make, depends on how often you and your little one plan to go swimming. For occasional visits to the swimming pool, you can use the disposable ones while reusable swim nappies are more suitable for those of you who plan to go swimming on a regular basis. After using them, the reusable version can be dried easily. Also reusable swim nappies have a higher aesthetic appeal because they are usually printed in bright and cheerful colours and thus hardly remind anybody of classis nappies.

Swim nappies: Different sizes

In order to ensure that your little one feels safe and comfortable with his nappy on and that the nappy itself serves its purpose, you need to find swim nappies that fit perfectly. Swim nappies are available in different sizes that are based on your little one’s weight. It is important to watch out for a model which features a snug fit in legs and feels comfortable around the waist. The swim nappy mustn’t feel too tight and pinch or twitch your child. Still, the respective model is supposed to fit perfectly so that it prevents faecal waste from getting lost in the swimming pool. Ideally, you always take your child with you when you are out and about to buy swim nappies so that your little one can try them on in the store. This way, you can ensure that the nappy fits perfectly and that your child feels super comfortable during his swimming session. Parents, too, are much more relaxed when they know that their little one’s nappy contains everything which is not supposed to get lost and that it doesn’t slip or shift about. Similar to the other nappies your child uses outside the swimming pool, you need to adapt the swim nappies’ size in the course of time.

Choosing the right size

  • Snug fit in the leg section
  • No tightness, pinching or twitching
  • Perfect fit that adapts to your little one’s height

Which type is the right one?

There are swim nappies which can be put on and taken off just like trousers. These types are rather inconvenient especially when the nappy is full, because their content distributes everywhere from belly to the feet of your child. Swim nappies that can be opened on the sides are better because they make putting them on and taking them off a lot easier.

If your little one is already a bit taller and older and now feels the urge of doing things on his own, you will find it much easier to take the nappy off like a pair of trousers or pants. His small hands as well as his fine motor skills will soon reach their limits when he tries to open the nappy on the side.

When chosen in an optimal size, a swim nappy turns out to be the ideal companion which keeps everything hygienic and ensures that you and your child feel safe and secure while splashing in the water.
