Yesterday, Max celebrated his 4th birthday, and for the first time his neighborhood friends and their parents attended a party at his home. Beaming all over his face, he tells his grandma that afternoon about the four colored candles on his birthday cake and his new yellow toy excavator. When Max’ father Lukas comes into the living room, the proud grandmother asks: “By the way, Lukas, how did the last check-up go at the pediatrician’s? Is everything OK with Max?” Lukas is instantly able to put his mother’s mind at rest and reports that Max now weighs 14.5 kilos. It suddenly occurs to the father that when Max has gained another 500 grams, German law will allow him to use a booster seat designed for children in the weight groups 2 and 3 instead of his current child car seat. But does a booster seat offer the same protection as a child car seat? And what should Lukas look out for when purchasing a seat of this kind? That evening, Lukas talks to his wife Anja about it, and together they decide to research booster seats on the Internet.
During their research, Anja discovers there are different types of booster seat available: In addition to the basic models without any lateral protection or seat belt guides, she also finds some with integral guides for lap belts. On reading the product description, Anja learns that guides in the pelvic area will prevent the booster seat from slipping forwards underneath Max. While searching the Internet on his smartphone, Lukas tells his wife about another model he has come across: “I’ve just found a seat which has belt guides similar to our current child car seat. And if Max falls asleep in the car, his upper body and head will be supported in the event of an impact.” Anja listens attentively to Lukas and thinks of her nephew, who at the age of 3 1/2 doesn’t have a child car seat, but a booster without a backrest. The young mother is also aware how much Max is looking forward to having the same seat as his older cousin. Eventually, the parents decide to seek the advice of a competent online seller in order to be sure of making the right decision in terms of keeping Max safe and happy.
