The classic: toy cars made of wood

A real classic in a child’s room are cars made of wood. The simplest models are already suitable toys for babies. They are less detailed, however, designed with loads of roundings and bright primary colours. Thanks to their rolling form and several gaps they are easy to grasp and support the motor development of your child as well as his hand-eye-coordination. There are more detailed wooden cars for toddlers aged 3 or rather 6 months, which are provided with only some functions. These cars invite to discover the world. In a playful way you bring the principle of cause and effect closer to your child and invite him to start crawling or make the first steps. Thanks to their massive construction and the stable, natural materials, wooden cars can be loyal companions for a long time. They can equally be used in your child’s room as well as in the sandbox, on the grass, the street or the playground.

Sustainable toys made of sustainable materials

A toy car of wood is not only the classic among the toys, in the best case it is also a sustainably and environmentally friendly produced toy for children. Wood is a durable and robust material which is very hard-wearing and massive in a way that it can also be passed on to other siblings. A sustainable and environmentally friendly requirement is also fulfilled through alternative materials like natural rubber or cardboard. A toy car made of natural rubber is, similar to a wooden toy car for babies, simply structured and well to grasp. The clear design in bright colours and the handy surface will encourage the littlest ones to discover and play. Toy cars made of cardboard and sticked together are not only very light, but they can also be painted on. They are suitable for toddlers who have already made experiences with paper and colored pens or doing handicrafts.

Colourful and inspiring: Toy cars for the support of development

Most of the toy cars for toddlers are made of plastic. For a good reason: The material is light, they are pourable in every shape, available in every colour and easy to clean. Cars made of plastic are available for children of every age and every stage of development. Babies like to play with models which are very simple designed in bright primary colours which are easy to grasp. Children aged three to six months are fascinated by everything which moves, offers other possibilities to play, blinks, glows or makes sounds. For their requirements, there is also a wide range of products of toy cars with numerous functions. While some models are a combination of stick system and car, ball path and car or ball and car, other vehicles glow when pressing a button, toot or play a melody. With that, toddlers often understand the principle of cause and effect and have fun while discovering their tooting, clacking, rattling and blinking toy.

Discovering the world in a playful way with toy cars and suitable accessories

For toddlers who have outgrew the crawling stage and discover the world on their own, toy cars are manufactured way more realistic and detailed. No wonder, because they have a direct comparison between their toy and real cars on the street. Vehicles for older children vary in their richness of detail as well as concerning the types of cars. Just like in real life children are now able to tell cars, race cars and cabriolets, lorries and garbage trucks, transporters and tractors apart. The different vehicles are used to understand and reenact the world. Helpful are toy cars which can be opened, loaded or complemented with a trailer. Or even complemented with suitable figures/sets such as a driver, play sets (e.g. a farm), a racecourse, a service station or a car park; they can discover the world in a playful way.

Things to consider when buying toys for little children

Cars in all colours, shapes and sizes are very popular among small and big children. They offer exciting functions and bright colors help to discover the world – and help to get to know the first friends. However, some things need to be considered if the fun should last a while:

  • age-appropriate design: older children are bored by toy cars in the worst case, if they are conceived for younger children. Toddlers, who play with cars for older children, can get hurt or swallow small pieces in the worst case.
  • easy cleaning: The toy should be easy and well to clean. Only then it will stay hygienically clean – after a trip to a muddy place or after stomach flu.
  • well manufactured: Check if the toy has sharp edges, off-standing pieces or swallowable small pieces. Even a high-quality toy can have manufacturing errors.
  • noxious substances: Cars for small and big children should be as low-pollutant as possible. That applies equally to saliva-resistant colours and paints as well as BPA free plastics.
  • safety: toys should have the GS approval mark – only this seal will guarantee the adherence to all current EU guidelines and enactments. If the car is provided with sound, lights or the like, especially check if the battery case is inaccessible and hard to open. Also check that sounds and melodies are not played too loud and can be regulated, if necessary, for that your little one’s hearing is protected.
  • annoyance factor: Toy cars with sound, blinking light and Co should have the option to be turned off to treat the nerves of stressed parents with care. Easy-going wheels made of soft plastic or natural rubber which cause less noise on wooden floors would make more sense.
